Non-stop rumours linking Chelsea with West Ham’s Declan Rice Stories linking West Ham’s Declan Rice will a possible summer move to Chelsea are now becoming a daily occurrence. Yesterday, the Athletic reported that Chelsea are keen on making Rice into their ‘new John Terry‘. Critically, the Blues are intent on playing Rice at centre-half rather than in a midfield role. Rice is under contract with West Ham until 2024. Fikayo Tomori might be a makeweight in a deal for West Ham’s Declan Rice Should Rice sign for Chelsea to play in defence, Frank Lampard would arguably have too many centre-halves in his squad. They already have Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta, Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori all battling for places. We’ve previously reported on suggestions that Zouma could be sold to make room for Rice in the Blues squad. Zouma’s Chelsea contract only expires in 2023. Tottenham have been linked with a move for Zouma this summer. However, in a fresh report from the Atheltic’s Simon Johnson, it’s now suggested that Fikayo Tomori could be ushered out of Stamford Bridge if Rice arrives. Importantly, Chelsea aren’t interested in selling Tomori. Rather, the club are keen on farming him out on loan so that he gains more game-time. That’s raised the possibility Chelsea offer West Ham Tomori on loan as part of the Rice deal. Readers are told: Sources have suggested that Tomori could even be offered to West Ham United as a means of trying to help negotiations over Rice, who won’t come cheap, especially if David Moyes’ side retain their Premier League status. #CFC’s desire to sign Declan Rice (or another to play at centre half) looks set to have consequences for Fikayo Tomori next season. I explain the situation here: https://t.co/IP3MIyhUrV — Simon Johnson (@SJohnsonSport) July 6, 2020 Tomori may join Everton The Athletic also remind readers that Everton have previously tried to sign Tomori: It shouldn’t be forgotten that the 22-year-old was in advanced talks with Everton last August only for the move to be called off when Lampard decided David Luiz was no longer part of his plans. Everton currently have 3 centre-halves on their books: Michael Keane, Yerry Mina and Mason Holgate. As an aside, Everton could now be without Mason Holgate following their 1-0 defeat at Tottenham on Monday. Holgate was subbed out of the Spurs game in the 36th minute after he picked up an injury. Yerry Mina came on as his replacement.
