3 Arsenal players missed 3 days of training before Man City after one player tested positive for Covid-19

Post by Floyd »

Arsenal lose at Man City & Brighton Two games, two defeats for Arsenal. It’s been a difficult return to action for Mikel Arteta’s Gunners following successive league defeats at Man City and Brighton. In both matches, Arsenal have sustained significant injury problems. At Man City, both Granit Xhaka and Pablo Mari were forced out of the game with injuries. While, against Brighton last weekend, German goalie Bernd Leno needed to be stretchered off after a collision with Neal Maupay. Arsenal ended up losing 3-0 at Man City: Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden all scored. Brighton beat Arsenal 2-1 last weekend after the Gunners took the lead through Nicolas Pepe. Maupay grabbed the late winner after Lewis Dunk had equalised.

3 Arsenal players missed 3 days of training before Man City after one player tested positive for Covid-19 On Monday in the Athletic, reporter David Ornstein has broken the news about how disruptive Arsenal’s preparations were before the Man City match. It’s now been confirmed that three Arsenal players were forced to miss three days of training following a positive Covid-19 test result: Arsenal received untimely news that one of their players had tested positive for coronavirus and, in line with Government protocols, should self-isolate for seven days. Worse still, it quickly emerged that the player had spent enough time socialising alongside two team-mates for it to be classified as “close contact” (coming within two metres of an individual who has tested positive for more than 15 minutes) and both of them needed to respect public health guidance by entering a 14-day period of quarantine.  Exclusive: Arsenal preparations for PL return were thrown into chaos when a player tested +ve for #COVID19 & 2 more had been in ‘close contact’. Trio missed 3 days training before -ve tests cleared all on eve of Man City to train/play. @TheAthleticUK #AFC: https://t.co/kJ0gin3YD5 — David Ornstein (@David_Ornstein) June 22, 2020 To cap a horrendous run of bad luck, it’s since been concluded that the Arsenal positive test result was a likely false positive: Given that everyone involved in the previous round of Arsenal testing showed as negative, nobody was displaying symptoms and the movements of the player who recorded a positive result gave no cause for concern, Arsenal strongly suspected this was likely to be a “false positive”.   Does this Covid-19 update explain Mesut Ozil’s absence in recent games? To be clear, the Athletic have not revealed which Arsenal players were caught up in the false positive Covid-19 test result. However, Arsenal fans will be all too well aware that Mesut Ozil was left out of the Man City squad altogether, while the German was also left on the bench against Brighton. If Ozil was the player who tested positive, would this explain his no-shows? No matter what … #M1Ö @Arsenal pic.twitter.com/WFmNoxpGBc — Mesut Özil (@MesutOzil1088) June 18, 2020 In addition, was Nicolas Pepe one of the players who was in close contact? Pepe was a surprise starter on the bench in the defeat against Man City.   Why Arsenal only arrived at Man City 3 hours before kick off In the build up to the Man City match, it was revealed that Arsenal only arrived at the Etihad Stadium three hours before kick off. In his commentary on Sky Sports, Gary Neville revealed his thoughts on Arsenal’s travel plans: I was staggered when I heard their travel plans, I’ve got to be honest. A plane three hours before kick-off, I was thinking more the risk of the weather we’ve got at the moment, the storm. However, David Ornstein has revealed why Arsenal took that decision: It seems everything that could have gone wrong for the Gunners so far has done. Even their journey to City was complicated by having nowhere to base themselves before the match — consequently flying north only three hours before the 8.15pm start and returning via Liverpool.   Also see: Manchester City vs Burnley FC live streaming & betting tips.
